What is fully permeable backing?

Fully permeable backing is designed to let water pass through a broad portion of the turf backing rather than primarily through spaced drainage holes. Actual installed drainage still depends on infill, base, subgrade, slope, and a discharge path.

Also called: flow-through backing, 100 percent permeable backing, open-grid backing

Why it matters

Broad permeability can be useful where frequent rinsing or concentrated pet use is expected, but the backing cannot correct a saturated or poorly graded site by itself.
