The same basic rate-card logic a turf salesperson uses.
An experienced turf salesperson does not build a quote by combining the cheapest imaginable labor with the most expensive imaginable site work. They measure the project, apply a local rate card, select the turf, add the conditions that actually apply, and produce a selling price.
Artificial Grass Shopper now selects a fixed component rate card using the project state’s broad evidence region. Turf, ordinary demolition, base preparation, installation labor, finishing materials, edging, delivery, and contractor operations and margin each have an explicit rate supported by component listings, government wage evidence, regional contractor disclosures, and installed-market checks. They are no longer percentage allocations of one broad range.
The result leads with one most-likely installed budget. Its normal planning range is based on measurement quality and how completely the site was described. Dimensions produce the tightest allowance; a rough area, unknown access, or uncertain drainage widens it. Published source extremes remain research context—they are no longer multiplied into an unhelpful headline range.
How contractor margin is handled
The estimate is a consumer selling-price model, not a list of wholesale costs. It includes a fixed regional allowance for project management, operating overhead, warranty responsibility, and contractor margin. That allowance is calibrated within the installed market price; it does not claim to reveal an individual contractor’s private net profit.
A play-area range includes ordinary residential safety surfacing, but the installer must match the complete system to equipment fall height and applicable safety requirements. A pool range assumes ordinary drainage preparation and secure edge work, not pool construction or deck repair. A putting-green range assumes a purpose-built putting surface with ordinary grading and cups; premium chipping greens, extensive fringe, bunkers, retaining walls, lighting, and landscaping remain outside the bundle.
Major drainage correction, engineering, unusual demolition, hazardous material, permits, taxes, and highly restricted access still need a local quote. The app calls those out rather than quietly guessing.
How field quotes improve the model
We compare the most-likely budget with complete, signable contractor proposals on a per-square-foot basis. One unusual quote does not change the model. A regional component rate changes only after comparable proposals show the same repeatable difference and the scope—turf, demolition, base, drainage, edging, delivery, labor, taxes, and exclusions—has been reconciled.
